Murchison Sports Club
The Sports Club building is the main social hub of the Murchison Shire. It is here that we gather for sporting events, such as cricket matches and tennis, meetings, workshops, fundraising activities and community social events. Club membership comes from locals from the surrounding stations and the Settlement.
The Club receives funding from memberships, game fees and bar sales. This funding is used for various purposes such as contributing to the recent upgrade of the building, coaching clinics and providing sporting equipment.
The main event held at the sports club each year is the polocrosse tournament; however throughout the year there are various functions. This year Murchison is hosting the Variety Club Bush Bash on September 5th. The ladies of the Arts Council will cater from the club’s recently renovated and well equipped kitchen for approximately 250 people. The Sports Club will run the bar for this event.
The Sports Club also plays an important community service role. This year it is again hosting a first aid course with the people from St Johns. All community members will have the opportunity to come and do, or refresh, their first aid certificates.
Each year the Community Christmas Tree is held at the Sports Club. The whole community gathers for this much anticipated and most enjoyable event. The evening festivities are preceded by our annual cricket match (which sorts the men from the boys as it is usually played in 40+ temperatures!).
All past and present members of the Murchison community are welcome as members of the Sports Club.
Membership fees for 2006 are $30.00 per family.
