Dog Registration
Dog Licences Are Due On 1 November
The Shire of Murchison wishes to remind residents that the Dog Act 1976 requires all dogs over three months of age to be licensed. All new dog registrations require the dog to also be microchipped before it can be registered as per the Dog Amendment Act 2013. Annual registrations made are for the period 1 November to 31 October.* Please note that proof of Sterilisation is required. This can be either a Vet Certificate or a visual inspection by Council Staff.
Cat Registration
The Cat Act 2011 requires the identification, registration and sterilisation of domestic cats, and gives local governments the power to administer and enforce the legislation.
From 1 November 2013, the full Cat Act 2011 takes effect and will require all cats that have reached 6 months of age to be:
- Microchipped;
- Sterilised; and
- Registered with the relevant local government.
Cats will be required to wear a collar and registration tag to ensure that owned cats can be easily identified and returned to their owner. The maximum number of cats permitted to be registered to a property is three. However, all persons currently owning more than three cats will be permitted to register all their cats until such time that the population is reduced by natural causes to three.
The legislation will provide for better management of the unwanted impacts of cats on the community and the environment, as well as encourage responsible cat ownership. Your rights and responsibilities as a cat owner are outlined in the following link -
